WEATHERWISE · DIGITAL EDGE MEDIA GROUP, LLC

Weatherwise Privacy Policy

Operator: Digital Edge Media Group, LLC. Contact: support@goweatherwise.com. Effective date: September 1, 2026.

This policy explains how Digital Edge Media Group, LLC ("we") handles information in the Weatherwise Android app, its optional launcher and home-screen widgets, our forecast service and accounts, and the goweatherwise.com website.

Your choices

You can use Weatherwise without signing in, sharing device location, turning on notifications, or making it your default Android home app. Choose a city manually instead of granting location access. Change app permissions in your device settings. Change the default home app through Android Settings → Apps → Default apps → Home app.

Weatherwise creates an anonymous account on first launch (below); you give no personal details for it. Signing in with Google, saving places and buying Weatherwise Plus are optional. You can sign out, or delete your account in the app with Account → Delete account. You can also request deletion as described at https://goweatherwise.com/support/#delete-account.

Information we use

  • Anonymous account: On first launch the app creates an anonymous account with Supabase, which gives your install a random account ID. Our forecast service uses it to limit how much each install can use. Supabase keeps your IP address and app details with your sign-in sessions.
  • Location and searches: When you request local weather, we use a manually selected city, a search result, or the approximate location supplied by your device after you tap for it. Our forecast service, which runs on Cloudflare, receives your account ID, your IP address and forecast locations rounded to about 1 km, and passes only the rounded locations to the weather providers listed below. City and ZIP code searches go to our service and, when our list of U.S. places finds no match, to WeatherAPI.com. The app checks official alerts directly with the National Weather Service for the selected place, rounded to about 110 m. Map layers and basemap tiles are requested directly from their providers, which receive the map area you view and your IP address; our service receives only the layer name, your account ID and your IP address, not the area you view. No background location access is requested.
  • Google sign-in (optional): If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name and email address with Weatherwise. Your name, email address, saved places (up to 10, with coordinates rounded to about 110 m) and settings (interests, favorite activity and units) are stored with your account until you delete it.
  • Purchases (optional): Weatherwise Plus is bought through Google Play. RevenueCat manages subscriptions and keeps your purchase history, linked to your account ID. If you are signed in, with Google or with email, the app also gives RevenueCat your email address, whether or not you buy Plus, so that we can find your purchases when you contact support; guest accounts send none. The app turns off RevenueCat's automatic collection of device identifiers. We never receive your payment card details. Our service keeps a copy of your subscription status: whether Plus is active, when it expires, the store, and whether the purchase was a test purchase.
  • Preferences on this device: Selected activities, preferred activity, temperature units, onboarding completion, the welcome-audio flag and reminder settings are stored on the device and may be included in your device backup. Your sign-in session is excluded from device backups and transfers.
  • Launcher apps: The optional Android launcher reads the names, icons and launch identifiers of apps available in the current personal profile so it can show and open them. This inventory is held in memory; Weatherwise does not upload it or use it for advertising. Work profiles and private space are not supported in this first version.
  • Audio: The welcome uses your device's text-to-speech service for a fixed phrase. It does not record audio or request microphone access. The speech engine may use its own network services under its provider's practices. The prompt attempts to play once; you can mute or replay it.
  • Notifications: An optional local reminder asks you to check Weatherwise around 8 AM. It contains no live forecast or emergency warning. The reminder does not send a push token or your location to a notification server. Turn it off in Home & reminders or device settings.
  • Requests, logs and limits: Internet services, including ours, receive ordinary request information such as IP address, request time and client information. Our service writes one log line per request with the route, result, timing, cache status, account tier and Cloudflare data center. It does not log coordinates, search text, your account ID, your IP address, sign-in tokens or the addresses of the services it calls. To prevent abuse it keeps daily and monthly usage counters per account and per network; a network is recorded only as a keyed code that changes every day, never as your IP address. Weather, search and news results are cached by rounded location, search text or feed, not by person.
  • Support requests: If you use the support form, we receive the name (optional), email address, topic and message you enter. Our service uses your IP address to limit how many messages each network can send; as with our other limits, a network is recorded only as a keyed code that changes every day. Cloudflare Turnstile receives your IP address from your browser, and from our service when it checks the result, to detect bots (see Spam and abuse checks). Our service does not store your message: it sends it through Mailgun to support@goweatherwise.com, and Cloudflare Email Routing forwards it to our inbox. Email you send to that address yourself is forwarded to the same inbox. How long we keep support messages is described under Retention and deletion.

Service providers

These providers process information for Weatherwise, grouped by what they do. Each operates under its own privacy policy.

Hosting and logs

Cloudflare runs our forecast service, which also receives support-form messages, and stores its logs. Cloudflare also hosts the goweatherwise.com website.

Spam and abuse checks

Cloudflare Turnstile runs a spam check on our support page. It receives your IP address and technical details of your browser and connection, which Cloudflare uses only to detect bots and to improve Turnstile. If we turn on an anti-abuse check at sign-in, Cloudflare Turnstile runs that check in the app.

Accounts and sign-in

Supabase runs accounts. It keeps your IP address and app details with each sign-in session and, if you sign in with Google, your name, email address, saved places and settings. Google provides Google Sign-In, if you use it.

App store and payments

Google Play distributes the app and handles purchases. RevenueCat keeps your purchase history and, if you are signed in, your email address, which is used for customer support.

Email

Mailgun (Sinch) sends email sign-in codes, if you sign in with email; it receives your email address and the code. Mailgun also sends the messages from our support form to support@goweatherwise.com, so it receives what you enter in the form. Cloudflare Email Routing forwards email sent to support@goweatherwise.com, support-form messages included, to our inbox. Microsoft (Microsoft 365) hosts that inbox, where support email, support-form messages and our replies are kept (see Retention and deletion).

Weather data

Weather data providers receive only rounded locations from our service (WeatherAPI.com, MET Norway, the National Weather Service and Open-Meteo, which is used only for Plus). WeatherAPI.com also receives search text our place list cannot match, and the app contacts the National Weather Service directly for official alerts.

Maps

The app requests map imagery and tiles directly from their providers, which receive the map area you view and your IP address: imagery from NOAA and the Iowa Environmental Mesonet (Iowa State University), and tiles from CARTO, or from Mapbox for Plus.

News

Opening a news story takes you to the agency's website (NOAA, NASA or the National Hurricane Center), whose practices apply there.

Analytics and advertising

None is active. The goweatherwise.com website has no analytics or advertising tags, and the app sends no analytics. The app package includes the Unity LevelPlay SDK, which release builds do not start; see Advertising.

Advertising

This version shows no ads; ad spaces show labeled placeholders. The Unity LevelPlay SDK and the Android advertising-ID permission are included in the app package, but the SDK starts only in separately enabled development builds that show test ads; release builds do not start it or request ads. Ad SDKs may process identifiers, IP address, device information and ad interactions. Before we turn on ads or analytics in the app, or add analytics or advertising tags to the goweatherwise.com website, we will update this policy to name the companies involved, what they collect and why, and your choices, including any consent or opt-out controls the law requires.

Retention and deletion

  • On your device: local preferences remain until the app's storage is cleared or it is uninstalled; operating-system backup behavior may also apply.
  • Anonymous accounts with no activity for 90 days are deleted automatically from Supabase. This cleanup does not delete the account's RevenueCat customer record, if there is one: that record has a random ID and no name or email address, and keeps any purchase history. If the account bought Weatherwise Plus, our copy of its subscription status is deleted once it has been inactive for 400 days.
  • Signed-in accounts keep your name, email address, saved places and settings until you delete the account.
  • Deleting your account in the app deletes your Supabase account with its saved places and settings, your RevenueCat customer record, including any email address it holds, and our copy of your subscription status. If a step fails, our service keeps retrying automatically until the deletion is complete. Deleting your account does not cancel a Google Play subscription; cancel it in Google Play first to stop future charges. After deletion, our service keeps the deleted account ID and deletion dates for about 400 days, so that the account cannot be used again.
  • Service records: records of purchase events from RevenueCat (event ID, type and time, without your account ID) are kept for 90 days. Subscription status that has been inactive for 400 days is deleted. Usage counters expire after their day or month. Cached weather, search and news results expire within 7 days.
  • Provider logs: how long each provider keeps its own logs and records depends on the provider and on our plan with it. Cloudflare keeps our service's logs for up to 7 days. Cloudflare Email Routing keeps a record of each email it forwards to our inbox, with the sender, recipient and subject, for 31 days. Supabase keeps its API, database and sign-in logs for up to 7 days. Mailgun keeps its email sending logs for up to 30 days, and copies of the emails it sends, such as sign-in codes, for up to 7 days. RevenueCat keeps a customer's purchase history until we delete the customer record, which we do when you delete your account but not when the 90-day cleanup removes a guest account.
  • Support messages: email sent to support@goweatherwise.com, messages from the support form and our replies are kept in our inbox, which is hosted by Microsoft (Microsoft 365). We keep them as long as we need them to answer you and keep a record of your request, and delete them within 2 years after the conversation ends. Mailgun, which sends support-form messages to that address, keeps a copy of each for up to 7 days.
  • Requests: Email support@goweatherwise.com from the email address on your account to ask for a copy of your information, or to have it corrected or deleted. Before we act on a request, we email that address and ask you to confirm it, and we answer within 45 days. You can also delete a signed-in account yourself in the app at any time, including on a new phone after you sign in there with the same account. Guest accounts have no email address; they are deleted automatically after 90 days without activity, as described above.

Security and international processing

Provider keys are kept as secrets in our service, never in the app or in source control. The app reaches our service over HTTPS, and requests for weather and account data carry a sign-in token that our service checks. Supabase stores accounts in the eastern United States (Ohio), and our subscription copy is stored by Cloudflare in eastern North America. Cloudflare and the other providers may process information in the United States and other countries. No security measure eliminates every risk.

Children and privacy requests

Weatherwise is intended for a general audience and is not designed as a children's service. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has signed in or sent us personal information, let us know and we will delete that information. Contact support@goweatherwise.com for privacy questions.

Changes

We may update this policy when Weatherwise or the law changes. We will post each update on this page and change the effective date at the top. If a change is material, we will also announce it on the goweatherwise.com home page and email signed-in accounts before it takes effect. We will not use information we already hold in a materially different way without your consent.

Home-screen widget

Optional home-screen widgets retain one selected location, rounded coordinates, temperature units, a widget access token for your account, the latest observation and a few upcoming forecast hours in private device storage excluded from backup, only while a widget is installed. Weather values are deleted once they pass the provider's display limits. Removing the last widget deletes that data and stops its update jobs. Widgets refresh weather through our service for the last selected location, sending it rounded to about 1 km; they do not collect background location. Places found through WeatherAPI.com search are not saved for widgets.
